Many are apprehensive at their first visit anywhere new. Major concerns when visiting an orthodontist for the first time may be: "How bad is it?" and "How much is it going to cost?" Sometimes patients or parents are so busy wincing, anticipating the worst that it takes a while for them to realize that it is not really bad at all. Orthodontic treatment is never an emergency situation where treatment must start in the next week or terrible things will happen. So try to relax.

The most important aspects of the initial visit are:

It is a chance for you to get to know a little about us and our style of practice.

After a clinical exam and some simple diagnostic records (x-rays and digital photos), you will have a chance to learn what orthodontic issues really exist and what all of the options are to address them. Often things that look quite bad are not all that difficult to make better. This and having the opportunity to get to know patients are what make our jobs fun.

If orthodontic treatment is appropriate at this time and desired, we will go over what would be involved in treatment, estimate the length of time in treatment, and go over costs and payment options.

If it is too early to begin treatment, we will have you come in periodically to keep an eye on things until ready.
